Wanderful! 40 Years Merano High Mountain Trail

Back in the 80s –when hikers still folded paper maps, munched their cheese and pickle sandwich without their smartwatches moaning about a “performance drop”, and mountain folks stashed a little backpack whisky instead of protein bars– two clever South Tyrolean mountain guides had a brilliant idea: to connect a few shepherd trails, forest roads and smuggler paths into a circular hike around the Texel Group. Nearly 100 kilometres, 5,000 vertical metres and five to eight hiking days later, the Merano High Mountain Trail was born in 1985.

Today, trail no. 24 is a cult classic. A blockbuster with a mountain backdrop, life path, relationship stress test, Knödel pilgrimage and strudel-fuelled cardio workout all in one. And that's exactly why we’re throwing it a proper birthday bash: with a sizzling BBQ, smoky alpine treats, chilled summer drinks, funky brass tunes by @die_seltsamen_senfsamen and a whole lot of trail camaraderie. For all those who have walked it, want to walk it – or are proudly here for the calories, not the kilometers.

 

A feast for young and old, altitude addicts and scenic strollers alike.
